Who is your hero? | Hillingdon Community Awards 2023 Now Open for nominations

Hidden Heroes from across Hillingdon are set to receive recognition with the return of the Hillingdon Community Awards.




Residents are being asked to nominate people or groups who make Hillingdon a better place for the community. Residents can nominate any individual person or groups who have improved the lives of Hillingdon residents through community work and “acts of exceptional kindness”.



The Hillingdon Community Awards, organised by Hillingdon Council, are an annual celebration of the Borough's unsung heroes. The council’s website describing Award winners as “Those ordinary People, our friends and neighbours who do extraordinary things - they're the people who help make the borough the place we know and love.”

The council says it started the awards last year to celebrate those who go above and beyond to help other people, making a positive difference to their community.

Leader of Hillingdon Council, Cllr Ian Edwards, said: "I'm delighted that our annual community awards are once again open for nominations.  During the past few years, we've witnessed the truly remarkable work of many individuals and community groups and these awards are an opportunity for us to recognise their achievements, tell their stories and celebrate the difference they've made to our borough."


Award winners for 2021 were chosen for a number of selfless acts including Brian ‘Bob’ Beeston. who has supported hundreds of young people during his 80 years of volunteering for The Scouts.


Speaking IN 2021 about receiving the award, Brian (known fondly as ‘Bob’ by those who work with him) said: "Receiving the award is a great surprise and I'm deeply honoured to have it bestowed on me for doing something which I've enjoyed over my lifetime. My service has already been recognised by the Scouting Association but to receive something from the council is very special and I'm delighted to accept it."


Bob Was awarded a Civic medal, the borough’s second highest award. The judges recognising the lifelong commitment given by Bob in his support of the scouts. As well as receiving the civic medal Bob Was recognised with a gold award in the Long Service To The Borough category.

Bob added "I can't quite do as much as I used to, so I leave that to the younger people, but I go along most Fridays and help out."


Nominations have officially opened with residents having until the 6th of January to nominate locals they feel deserving of recognition. More information can be found via Hillingdon.gov.uk and nomination forms can be found via this link
