'What is it they don't want us to see?' Hillingdon Conservatives slammed over budget delay

Hillingdon Conservatives are yet to publish a draft version of Hillingdon Council's annual budget despite a vote on it due* this Thursday (17th February).

At Thursday's meeting, Cabinet members will be expected to scrutinise the proposals in the budget which will include the council tax rate for the 2022/23 financial year, and Council spending for the same period.

With only 72 hours until the meeting, the final proposals have still not been published. There is a legal obligation for Council's to publish agendas and documents ahead of meetings that are open to the public - such as Cabinet.

Speaking about the delay in publication, leader of the Labour group, Cllr Peter Curling said:

"Considering the Council's fragile financial position as we await confirmation of a bailout from the Government, a delay in publication of the budget is extremely worrying. How can Councillors scrutinise the budget and the proposals within it if the Conservatives are withholding the information?

"What is it that they don't want us to see? Are they incompetent or malicious"
