Updated: 6 days ago

A 17-year-old male has been arrested in connection with the murder of 16-year-old Kamari Johnson in Hayes.

Kamari Johnson was killed in the incident

The arrest took place on the evening of Saturday, May 25. Kamari was stabbed on Bourne Avenue around 1:30 PM on Friday, May 24. Despite rapid response and medical efforts from officers, the London Ambulance Service, and London's Air Ambulance, Kamari was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kamari’s family has been informed of his death and is being supported by specially trained officers. The arrested teenager remains in custody as the investigation continues.

Detective Chief Inspector Alex Gammampila, leading the investigation, stated that the team is working to determine the circumstances of Kamari's death and the reasons behind the attack. He emphasized the importance of community assistance in the investigation. "We need to work together to ensure Kamari’s family gets the answers they deserve," Gammampila said.

The police are appealing to the public for any information, particularly doorbell or dashcam footage that might be relevant. Residents are encouraged to check their cameras and upload any footage directly via the Operation Brownlow online portal.

In the wake of the incident, Bourne Avenue remains closed to traffic as police conduct their investigation. Several local businesses within the cordoned area are also temporarily closed. Authorities are working to ensure the area is thoroughly examined for evidence.

Local resident Anne, 83, who lives nearby on Bourne Avenue, expressed her concern. "I'm terrified. The crime rate locally seems high. There's a lot of crime among young people because there's nowhere for them to go and be productive," she said.

Witnesses or anyone with information should call 101 or post @MetCC with reference CAD 3832/24 May.

Information can also be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111. The police urge anyone who might have seen anything or has any information, no matter how small, to come forward to help bring clarity to this case.
