Updated: Feb 12

Despite the rain and the challenges of Storm Bert, Uxbridge's Christmas lights switch-on event was a resounding success, bringing the community together in festive cheer.

Mayor Colleen Sullivan officially illuminated the town centre, and the crowd’s excitement was evident, even as the weather remained less than ideal.

Following the switch-on, a stunning fireworks display over the Chimes Shopping Centre lit up the night sky.

DJ Jon Blower kept spirits high with Christmas tunes as performers, including the Grinch, Buddy the Elf, Lou Who, and Deadpool Santa, entertained the crowd. There were also stilt-walking Nutcrackers, Mirror Men, LED Penguins, festive fairies, and bouncing snowmen, adding a touch of whimsy to the celebration.

The Tinsel Town Christmas Market offered festive treats like mince pies and mulled wine, while Reverend Andy Thompson of St. Margaret's Church shared his thoughts on the season. "Christmas means different things to different people—family, church, and community," he said. "We come together regardless of faith or background, and it’s an honour to serve the community. It’s a time for togetherness and support, as we offer our church to performers and volunteers, while serving tea, coffee, and mince pies. We’re so grateful to help and mark the beginning of Christmas with the whole Uxbridge community."

The Church Community and volunteers from Brunel University worked tirelessly to ensure the event ran smoothly, offering refreshments and support to attendees at the church.
