How to find your skin type

Updated: Aug 20, 2023

All skin types benefit from daily cleansing and moisturising but knowing your skin type can really help you personalise your routine to your skins needs… to give your skin the care and protection it deserves! Did you know there’s a simple way to work it out?

Here’s how

Wash your face with a gentle cleaner and wait for around 30 minutes (without applying anything on top).

Keep reading to see what skin type you fit in to. Please be aware that external factors can also impact this: your skin might be dehydrated, your barrier compromised etc… these can change over time.

You have normal skin if…
  • Your skin feels smooth and normal

  • There’s no signs of oiliness or flaking. You can check for oily on the skin using blotting patches.

  • You generally don’t have sensitivity or breakouts.

You have dry skin if…
  • Your skin feels tight, perhaps a little flaky in areas.

  • It often feels rough or less elastic and may be prone to showing more visible lines.

You have combination skin if…
  • You normally have an oily t-zone (your forehead, nose, and chin) and the rest of your skin is either dry or normal.

  • The more oily parts may have enlarged pores, breakouts and blackheads.

You have oily skin if…

Your skin looks shiny, is slick to touch.

Breakouts are common for you.

You have sensitive skin if…
  • Your skin may be red, feel like it's burning, itching or dry

Sensitive skin is often referred to as a skin type, but you can have oily and sensitive skin, dry and sensitive skin or normal and sensitive skin.

Some people only experience mild irritation when exposed to stressors, while others struggle with redness, itching, and discomfort regularly. Sensitivity isn’t always visible—sometimes, it’s just about how the skin feels.

Here's to better skin!
