Established in October 2021, and run by the Journalism students at Brunel University, The Herald has already established itself as the number one local newspaper, delighting readers who bemoaned a gap in the market. Its uniqueness comes from its commitment to producing a traditional print newspaper that covers the local borough news their community really cares about.

Rachel Sharp, the editor of The Hillingdon Herald, said:

“We are thrilled to be shortlisted. This is a wonderful reward for the dedication and commitment shown by our brilliant students who constantly go over and above the call of duty to produce a first-class local paper.”

The Herald will be competing against universities and other institutions from across the country and the award will be presented to the institution that has made the most innovative and impactful contributions to social, cultural, or economic well-being. However, the paper's commitment to providing essential local news and information, as well as its involvement in community initiatives, gives it a strong chance.

Namrata Harish, Student Told us:

“THH gave me a platform to showcase my journalistic skills. It was my first time writing for print and there was a lot of unlearning and relearning I had to do. And I’m glad I got to do it under the best editors and team!”

As the Hillingdon Herald continues to grow and evolve, its nomination for the THE Award is a testament to its significant impact on the local community.

Whether or not it wins, the recognition serves as a reminder of the vital role that local journalism plays in keeping residents informed and connected. The Herald's dedication to fostering a strong and vibrant community is an inspiration to all.
